J&K Bank raises accident cover for government employees to ₹1 crore
A five-year agreement expands insurance, disability and family benefits for permanent Jammu and Kashmir government staff while adding loan and banking concessions.
Jammu and Kashmir Bank has increased group personal accident insurance for permanent government employees in the union territory from ₹25 lakh to ₹1 crore under a five-year agreement signed with the administration on October 23, 2026.
The arrangement expands disability protection and assistance for employees’ families while also introducing preferential lending terms and other banking concessions. It was signed in the presence of Finance Department Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar and J&K Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Amitava Chatterjee.
The insurance package includes ₹1.35 crore of cover for an air accident, ₹75 lakh for permanent total disability and ₹55 lakh for permanent partial disability, subject to the relevant terms and rules.
If an insured employee dies prematurely, education assistance is set at ₹8 lakh for a male child and ₹10 lakh for a girl child. An eligible family may also receive up to ₹10 lakh for a girl child’s marriage and ₹10 lakh of air-ambulance cover, subject to the applicable conditions.
Permanent government employees covered by the agreement will be eligible for zero-balance bank accounts, free international debit cards with add-on cards for spouses and lifetime-free RuPay credit cards.
The package provides a 25-basis-point reduction in the applicable personal-loan interest rate, while remaining subject to the prescribed benchmark floor. Processing fees and charges are waived for automobile, personal, housing and education loans.
Employees may also receive overdraft facilities of as much as ₹6 lakh, capped at six months’ salary. Collateral-free education loans of up to ₹10 lakh will be available for employees’ children under the scheme.
The banking benefits include financing of up to 100% for new cars and two-wheelers. Eligible employees may also obtain housing repair and renovation loans of up to ₹10 lakh without mortgaging a property.
The expanded package is intended to provide a wider financial safety net for employees and their immediate families. Individual benefits remain subject to eligibility requirements and the bank’s policy, insurance and lending conditions, which employees need to verify before relying on a particular provision.
