Sawt Falasteen - Chelsea 'keeper Sanchez makes deadline-day move to Como

The 28-year-old was expected to move away from Stamford Bridge after Chelsea signed Argentina No. 1 Emiliano Martinez from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

"Como 1907 is pleased to announce the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez on loan from Chelsea F.C. until the end of the 2026/27 season," read a statement on the Italian club's website.

Sanchez joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2023 but struggled to convince during his time in London.

And he once again came under criticism following a 3–2 victory over Fulham to open their Premier League campaign last week, prompting new manager Xabi Alonso to turn to Martinez, who promptly made his debut in goal on Sunday, hours after signing.

"Robert brings experience at the highest level and qualities that suit the way we want to play," Como coach Cesc Fabregas said.

"We are very happy to welcome him to Como."

Sanchez will find at least one familiar face in northern Italy as he will join back up with former Chelsea centre-half Trevoh Chalobah, who also signed with Como last month.

Como, who will make their Champions League debut this season, on transfer deadline day also welcomed former Everton and Juventus striker Moise Kean on a year-long loan deal with an obligation to buy.

According to reports, the eventual transfer fee for the 26-year-old could reach 40 million euros ($46 million).

"Moise is an important player, he's already ready and experienced, but he's still very hungry and has plenty of room to grow," Fabregas said of the Italy international.
