World amateur No.1 golfer Koivun to turn pro after US Open

American Jackson Koivun, the world's top-ranked amateur golfer, said Friday he will turn professional after competing in next week's US Open.

Nine days after Koivun helped Auburn University win a second US collegiate crown in three years, the 21-year-old from California announced in a social media video that he would skip his senior season for a professional career.

"I've played my final season of collegiate golf," Koivun said.

"I've decided to forego my senior year to pursue my lifelong dream of playing on the PGA Tour. To my teammates, coaches, support staff, fans and most importantly, my family, thank you for supporting me in this chapter of my life.

"I'm incredibly excited for what's ahead."

After making his final amateur start next week at Shinnecock Hills in the 126th US Open, Koivun will make his pro debut next month at the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

Koivun qualified last year through the PGA Tour University's Accelerated program recognizing collegiate performance.

Koivun has played in nine PGA Tour events as an amateur, including three top-six efforts in seven 2025 starts.
