NFL Titans fire Callahan as coach after 1-5 start
Brian Callahan was fired as head coach of the NFL Tennessee Titans on Monday after a 1-5 start to the season, the team announced.
The 41-year-old American, who spent five seasons as Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator before taking over Tennessee last year, finished 4-19 guiding the Titans over two campaigns.
"After extended conversations with our owner and general manager, we met with Brian Callahan this morning to tell him we are making a change at head coach," Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker said in a statement.
"While we are committed to a patient and strategic plan to build a sustainable, winning football program, we have not demonstrated sufficient growth.
"Our players, fans, and community deserve a football team that achieves a standard we are not currently meeting, and we are committed to making the hard decisions necessary to reach and maintain that standard."
No interim coach or other personnel changes were announced.
The Titans will play host to New England on Sunday, the visiting Patriots coached by Mike Vrabel, the coach that Callahan replaced after he was dismissed following the 2023 Tennessee campaign.
The Titans owned the top pick in this year's NFL Draft and selected quarterback Cam Ward, who has taken a league-high 25 sacks and thrown four interceptions while losing four fumbles.
Tennessee's latest move continues a chaotic period for the club, which fired general manager Jon Robinson in 2022, dumped Vrabel in 2023 and fired general manager Ran Carthon this past January.
