MLB suspends Padres pitcher three games for hitting Ohtani
San Diego Padres pitcher Robert Suarez was issued a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine by Major League Baseball for intentionally hitting Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The punishment, handed down Friday night, came for his pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday at Dodger Stadium.
Suarez appealed the ban, which will not begin until that process is complete.
San Diego manager Mike Shildt and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also received one-game suspensions that were served on Friday when the Padres played Kansas City and the Dodgers faced Washington.
In an unrelated incident, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Dennis Santana was handed a four-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for aggressive conduct toward a fan.
The incident took place near the bullpen during the second game of Thursday's doubleheader at Detroit.
Santana appealed the suspension so no punishment will be imposed until the appeal is heard by MLB.
